years ago an ex-girlfriend asked me, “what do you think is the most important ingredient in a relationship?”  i paused for a quick second, “you think it’s love don’t you?”  she replied “yes…but i have a feeling you don’t agree.”  i didn’t want to get in another heated argument with her because after years of not seeing each other - we just started to become friends, “i do agree with you, love is key in any relationship, but i don’t believe it’s the most important.  i truly believe the most important part in a successful relationship is…respect.  love falls somewhere between 3 and 4;)”  there was a dead silence…the little voice in my head said, “oh shit, is this the start of one of our battles?”  she looked away, then turned back to me with a half-smile…”you know for once, i do agree with you…”
